Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

1. Scope of the Journal

Ilorin Journal of Administration and Development (IJAD) publishes high-quality empirical, conceptual, and theoretical research, case studies, and book reviews in areas including, but not limited to: Public Administration, Public Policy and Management, Political Theory, International Relations, Human Resource Management, Community Development, Local Government Administration, Gender and Equity, Sustainable Development, ICT in the Public Sector, Public Financial Management, Industrial Relations and Conflict Resolution, Organizational Theory and Management, Economic and Social Development, and Socio-Cultural Issues in Development.

2. Manuscript Submission

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted via the OJS online submission system.

3. Language

  • Manuscripts must be written in English, with clear and concise language.
  • Authors are encouraged to have their manuscript professionally proofread prior to submission.

4. Article Structure

Submissions should follow this structure:

  1. Title: Maximum 15 words.
  2. Abstract: 200–250 words summarizing the research problem, methodology, main findings, and implications.
  3. Keywords: 4–6 keywords that reflect the main topics of the paper.
  4. Introduction: Introduces the research problem, significance, and objectives.
  5. Literature Review: Discusses prior research and identifies gaps.
  6. Theoretical Review / Conceptual Framework: Presents the theoretical underpinning or conceptual model guiding the study.
  7. Methodology: Describes research design, data sources, sampling, instruments, and analytical procedures.
  8. Presentation of Findings and Analysis: Clearly present results using tables, figures, and narrative analysis.
  9. Discussion of Findings: Interpret findings in light of research objectives, literature, and theory.
  10. Theoretical and Practical Implications: Highlight contributions to theory, policy, or practice.
  11. Conclusion: Summarize key findings, limitations, and suggestions for future research.

5. Formatting Guidelines

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced.
  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.
  • Headings: Use clear, numbered headings as outlined above.
  • Tables & Figures: Number consecutively (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1) with descriptive captions.

6. Citation and Referencing Style

  • APA 7th Edition is the required bibliographic style.
  • In-text citation examples:
    • One author: (Smith, 2020)
    • Two authors: (Smith & Jones, 2021)
    • Three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2022)
  • Reference list examples:
    • Journal Article: Smith, J. (2020). Public policy reforms and governance. Journal of Administration Studies, 12(3), 45–60.
    • Book: Jones, M. (2019). Local governance and community development. Ibadan: Academic Press.
    • Book Chapter: Adeyemi, T. (2018). Human resource management in local governments. In O. Olu (Ed.), Public administration in Africa (pp. 123–140). Lagos: University Press.

7. Ethical Considerations

  • Authors must adhere to ethical standards, including:
    • Declaring any competing interests.
    • Ensuring research involving humans or animals follows ethical protocols.
    • Avoiding plagiarism; all sources must be properly cited.

8. Submission Checklist

Before submission, ensure that:

  • Manuscript follows the structure and formatting above.
  • Abstract and keywords are included.
  • All tables and figures are properly labeled.
  • References follow APA 7th edition.
  • Ethical statements and conflict-of-interest declarations are included.

9. Review and Publication

  • All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review.
  • Accepted manuscripts are published biannually (June and December).
  • Authors will receive feedback from reviewers and are expected to address comments prior to final publication.
